Former Nicolet teacher Janis Waugh dies at 72 - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Jan 24, 2019Janis Waugh, who taught at the school from 1995-2012, died Jan. 6 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois, about 18 miles northeast of St. Louis, Missouri. "We are saddened to hear about the passing of Janis Waugh. We thank her for her service to the students of Nicolet and our community. Our thoughts go out to her family and all who knew Janis during this time," said a post by Nicolet High School on its Facebook page. According to an obituary for Waugh, she was born Nov. 3, 1946, in Evansville, Indiana. She grew up in Fairfield, Illinois, and became Miss Fairfield as a high school senior in 1964. Waugh married a fellow teacher, Robert, and moved to Wisconsin, where she continued her career as a high school business teacher. After retiring from Nicolet in 2012, Waugh and her husband moved back to southern Illinois. Waugh is survived by her husband, Robert; son Bryan (Maggie Morscher) Waugh of Ogden, Utah; step-son Michael (Kathy) Waugh of Parker, Colorado; daughter Jennifer Waugh of Madison; step-daughter Debbie (Dan) Heder of Milton; grandchildren Ethan and Dylan Waugh, Brianne (Daniel) Miller, Malachi (Jenna) Heder, and one granddaughter on the way; great grandchild Franklin Miller; brother Bruce (Janie) Stephens; and sister Kaye Schroeder of Lake St. Louis, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law Tammy Stephens. A visitation was held Jan. 8 at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, Illinoios. A private burial was to take place at Maple Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggestsed to the American Diabetes Association and will be accepted at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
